Skill Labs — verified by doing
A Micro-Lab is a short, hands-on task generated for the exact skill you're verifying. No multiple-choice trivia — you audit real code, allocate real budgets, or fix real logic, and the platform grades what you actually did.
How a lab works
- Generate — pick a skill on your profile and choose Verify this skill. An AI engine authors a hands-on task calibrated to the skill and difficulty.
- Attempt — the lab opens fullscreen with a server-side timer. Answer keys never leave the server.
- Grade — your submission is scored server-side against a hidden validation matrix. Score 90%+ and the skill flips to verified on your profile, earning XP and GC points.
Why a lab result is trustworthy
- Server-authoritative timing — elapsed time is computed from the server clock, never your device. Out-of-time attempts cannot pass.
- Sealed answer key — grading logic and correct answers exist only on the server; the browser only ever receives the task.
- Signed sessions — every attempt is bound to a signed token tied to you, the lab, and the start time.
- Attempt limits — daily and monthly caps per skill keep retry-grinding from devaluing the credential.
What the proctoring layer monitors
During an active attempt, the lab runs a monitored, fullscreen environment. In plain terms, here is exactly what happens:

By starting a lab you consent to this monitoring for the duration of the attempt. No webcam, microphone, or screen contents are captured — only the interaction events listed above. The event log exists so a passed lab means something to employers.

You can also verify a skill by submitting an existing credential URL (e.g. a course certificate). The issuer's reputation and the credential's liveness are checked; verified certificates contribute a smaller GC bonus than a passed lab. See Badges & verification.
What you earn
- Verified badge on the skill — employers see it marked as proven.
- XP credited to your ledger (see XP — earned progress).
- GC points — a demand-weighted bonus applied to your effective GC Score, visible on your employer-facing profile.
